Sustainable production of sandwich, honeycomb and composite panels and furniture

Major investments and good practices, when it comes to environmental impact we give the most while consuming the least

There are two strands of CEL Components sustainability, productive and indirect. Firstly, we intervene with measures and approaches that have an impact on production, easing its impact. On the other hand, we are vehicles of sustainability for those who use our sandwich panels. For three reasons:

  • their lightness;
  • the minimal disposal problems;
  • the high recycling rate of their component materials

Clean production

By choosing suppliers not far from our production centre, we trigger a virtuous process that produces spin-offs for the organisation, the territory that hosts it, and the local economy. In addition:

  • we avoid long and unnecessary transports, less CO2;
  • we are faster in deliveries and we guarantee better service.

Although CEL Components' production process does not qualify it as an energy consumer, the energy we use comes 100% from renewable sources and the heat produced by the machinery is reused for space heating.

Some CEL Components panels use combinations of 95 to 100% recyclable materials

A FUTURE-ORIENTED PRODUCTION SITE

The new CEL Components site is the result of a strong drive to do good.
It is proof that the balance between organisational and production requirements and respect for the environment creates value on all dimensions of sustainable development: economic, social, ecological.

THE FACTORY THAT WILL BE VIRTUOUS BY 2024

A project for the redevelopment of a disused industrial area, without consuming additional land.
Equipped with a photovoltaic system, it is completely self-sufficient in terms of energy, inheriting and amplifying the good daily practices already in use in the previous plant.  A new environment in which employees find a higher level of well-being and beauty, a source of inspiration. The wellbeing of employees is important, there will be equipped green spaces in the new area

More sustainable customers with CEL Components panels

Aluminium honeycomb

The aluminium honeycomb structure is the core of many of our sandwich panels. As well as making them light, solid and strong, it is 100% recyclable. A feature that impacts on more than one aspect:

  • design, designers exploit its lightness to create much fewer heavy structures;
  • logistical, its lightness is felt in transportation;
  • environmental and economic, recycling aluminium saves 95% of the energy needed to produce it again.

PET, from used bottles panels for a thousand applications

PET foam is another core of our sandwich panels. A thermoplastic material whose use allows for drastic weight reduction. It is obtained from recycled plastic bottles.

Polypropylene

For some applications, polypropylene honeycomb is more suitable than aluminium. Lightness and strength are common denominators as is the possibility of post-milling recycling with granulators.

A practical example, the COMPOCEL AL panel

Composed of 95% aluminium, COMPOCEL AL panels can be melted down and the aluminium reused over and over again. The aluminium skins used for this panel are composed, between 44 and 72%, precisely of recycled aluminium.
Foundries buy scrap and waste from recovery companies, once melted it can return to the production cycle.
The remaining 5% consists of glues and bonding resins that evaporate during the melting of the panel.
COMPOCEL AL is provided with Material Passport and BIM model.

Working towards a more sustainable future

CEL is working on a "Green" panel made of balsa and flax fibre, two natural materials with a very low environmental impact.
