Aluminium honeycomb

Aluminium honeycomb is a hexagonal-shaped core product similar to a honeycomb, used mainly as core for sandwich panels

The applications of aluminium honeycomb are many and in very different sectors: 

  • means of transport (from railway to nautical/naval)
  • machine tools & laser cutting;
  • screen printing and aeraulics;
  • construction;
  • military.

It is therefore used as a core for sandwich panels for the following uses: 

  • floors;
  • ceilings;
  • doors;
  • bulkheads;
  • façades;
  • floors for automatic machines.

and for all composite products that need to achieve an optimum stiffness-to-weight ratio.
Used on its own, without skins, as a deflector it channels and laminarises air flows, while as a crash absorber, as it absorbs kinetic energy in compression (shock absorber).

Technical features

Aluminium honeycomb is lightweight, compression and shear resistant, has an excellent fire rating and is corrosion-resistant, non-rotting and recyclable.
Aluminium honeycomb used as a panel core is the ideal answer when you need:

  • lightness
  • stiffness
  • excellent reaction to fire
  • resistance to compression, shear and corrosion
  • flatness

Non-expanded block thickness: 1000 mm standard, honeycomb diameter from 3 to 25 mm, honeycomb density is related to foil thickness and cell diameter. Expanded section thicknesses from approx. 3 mm to 60/200 mm (depending on cell diameter).
